Chasing Plumber Jobs Down Under
Thing is, plumber jobs in Australia keep popping up no matter what the economy does. From what I've seen working the trade, there's always a new build or a renovation calling.
Honestly speaking you don't need some fancy degree. Just the right tickets and a bit of hustle.
Where the Work Actually Is
Sydney and Melbourne stay busiest year round. Brisbane's catching up fast though with all the growth up north. Perth can be good too if you don't mind the isolation.

Smaller towns need plumbers just as bad sometimes. Less competition but you might drive further between jobs.
Getting Your License Sorted
Look, you can't just rock up and start work. Every state has its own rules for plumbing licenses. New South Wales wants you registered with Fair Trading. Victoria's through the VBA.
Most guys start with a Cert III in Plumbing. Then you add on the license after your apprenticeship. Takes four years usually but some do it faster.
And once you're licensed the doors really open. Gas fitting adds extra cash too.
What the Pay Looks Like These Days
Entry level might sit around seventy grand. But experienced plumbers pull in a hundred easy. Overtime and call outs push it higher still.
Not great if you're chasing big city rates in a quiet regional spot. Big difference between metro and the bush.
- Sydney averages top the list
- Melbourne close behind
- Brisbane good for lifestyle balance
From what I've seen the real money comes from running your own van though.
How to Land the First Gig
Apprenticeships are the classic route. Trade websites and Facebook groups both work for hunting. Word of mouth still beats everything in my experience.
Show up on time with your tools ready. Bosses notice that stuff quick.
So many blokes get their start through mates already in the game. Don't sleep on that network.
Day to Day Realities
It's not all glamorous new installs. You'll deal with blocked drains and emergency leaks at weird hours.
But you finish a job and see the result straight away. That's satisfying in a way office work never is.
Weather can wreck your day too. Nothing like digging trenches in summer heat.
Exactly why some guys move into maintenance roles later on. Less physical grind.
