Job Description
A leading Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar energy provider is seeking an experienced Master Installation Electrician to take ownership of electrical compliance, technical governance, and statutory adherence across large‑scale solar PV projects.

This senior leadership role is critical in ensuring that all installations meet South African regulatory, safety, and grid‑connection standards while maintaining the highest levels of workmanship and quality.

Role Overview

The Compliance Lead is responsible for ensuring that all C&I solar PV systems are designed, installed, tested, commissioned, and maintained in full compliance with:
• SANS 10142‑1
• NRS 097 series
• OHS Act & Electrical Installation Regulations
• Relevant IEC PV standards

You will act as the organisation’s senior registered electrical authority, providing installation sign‑off, governance oversight, and technical leadership across multiple projects and EPC partners.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain the organisation’s PV Compliance Framework
• Lead compliance audits across project sites, EPCs, and subcontractors
• Oversee method statements, SOPs, commissioning quality plans, and test documentation
• Maintain internal standards aligned to evolving SANS, NRS, and IEC regulations
• Provide sign‑off on:
• Installation quality and workmanship
• Test and inspection results
• Certificates of Compliance (COCs)
• As‑built drawings and commissioning packs
• Lead root‑cause analysis of non‑conformances, failures, or safety incidents
• Oversee electrical design compliance reviews (DC, AC, protection, earthing, lightning)
• Approve inverter configurations, protection grading, and grid‑integration principles
• Ensure all equipment meets IEC/SANS certification requirements
• Act as primary compliance liaison with:
• Municipal electrical departments
• Utilities and grid authorities
• Clients, consulting engineers, auditors, and project managers
• Lead compliance‑related meetings, FAT/SATs, inspections, and sign‑off processes
• Ensure legal compliance with OHS Act, Electrical Installation Regulations, and Construction Regulations
• Oversee lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO), safe switching, and site electrical safety systems
• Train, assess, and mentor electrical teams and supervisors

Minimum Requirements:

Mandatory Qualifications
• Red Seal Trade Test – Electrician (Section 26D)
• Registered Master Installation Electrician (Department of Employment & Labour)
• Valid Wireman’s Licence with authority to issue and sign COCs
• Recognised PV/SSEG installer certification (SAPVIA PV GreenCard, EWSETA, or equivalent)

Experience
• 7–10+ years’ electrical installation experience
• Minimum 5 years in commercial or industrial solar PV
• Proven leadership on C&I solar projects >500 kWp
• Expert knowledge of:
• SANS 10142‑1
• NRS 097 Series
• IEC PV standards
• LV/MV system integration
• Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, protection schemes, and layouts
• High‑quality technical writing skills (audits, reports, compliance documentation)
