Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Leak Detector and Drain Cleaning Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will specialise in identifying and locating hidden water leaks using advanced diagnostic equipment and performing thorough drain and sewer cleaning to resolve blockages and prevent future issues. This role involves field-based work, emergency call-outs, and delivering high-quality customer service in residential, commercial, and industrial settings across the West Rand.

Key Responsibilities

Detect and locate water leaks in underground pipes, walls, slabs, and concealed plumbing systems using specialised tools (acoustic detectors, correlation equipment, thermal imaging cameras, tracer gas, and CCTV pipe inspection cameras).

Perform drain and sewer cleaning using mechanical snakes, hydro-jetting, and high-pressure water jetting equipment to clear blockages caused by grease, roots, debris, or foreign objects.

Diagnose plumbing problems related to leaks, slow drains, backups, and overflows; carry out minor repairs or recommend comprehensive solutions.

Conduct pre- and post-service inspections, including camera surveys and reporting findings to clients.

Provide accurate quotations, explain technical issues clearly to customers, and ensure job completion meets quality and safety standards.

Respond to emergency call-outs for burst pipes, major leaks, and severe blockages.

Maintain company tools, equipment, and assigned service vehicle in excellent working condition.

Adhere to South African plumbing regulations, SANS standards, and occupational health & safety requirements.

Complete accurate job reports, timesheets, and invoices.

Requirements

Minimum 10 years of hands-on field experience in plumbing, with proven expertise in leak detection and drain/sewer cleaning.

Valid South African drivers licence (Code B or higher, with no endorsements).

Recognised plumbing qualification (e.g., Trade Test Certificate / Red Seal Plumber, N3/N4 Plumbing, or equivalent registered with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board or relevant SETA).

Provide at least three professional references from previous employers or clients attesting to technical skills and reliability.

Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces, trenches, manholes, and adverse weather conditions.

Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service orientation.

Must be punctual, trustworthy, and able to work independently or as part of a small team.
