Job Description
Our client, a retail centre in Cape Town, Western Cape, is looking for a Retail Security Guard to prevent theft and ensure a safe shopping environment. You will patrol the mall, monitor customer behaviour, apprehend shoplifters according to legal procedures, and assist with emergency evacuations. Retail security experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
• Assist with emergency procedures including fire evacuations, medical emergencies, and crisis situations according to established protocols.
• Supervise and coordinate a team of security officers, managing shift rosters and ensuring all posts are adequately staffed.
• Monitor CCTV camera feeds in real time from a control room, identifying and responding to any unusual or suspicious activity.
• Control access to buildings and sites by verifying identification, issuing visitor passes, and maintaining an accurate access register.
• Perform regular checks of security equipment including alarms, cameras, radios, and access control systems to ensure functionality.
• Write detailed and accurate incident reports describing security events, observations, and actions taken for management review.
• Respond promptly to alarm activations, investigate the cause, and take appropriate action including escalation to armed response or law enforcement.

Requirements
• For armed response roles, a valid firearm competency certificate and experience in handling firearms safely.
• Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods, conduct foot patrols, and respond quickly to incidents.
• A valid driver's licence is required for armed response and patrol positions.
• Good written and verbal communication skills to write reports and interact professionally with clients and the public.
• A clear criminal record is mandatory and subject to regular review as per PSIRA requirements.
