Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
β€’ Ensure that all work orders, check sheets and overtime sheets are filled in correctly and submitted before end of shift. Completing Vehicle Inspection sheets, Logbooks daily and submit to the Foreman on a weekly basis. Submission of all petrol slips once a month as per the Johannesburg Water Vehicle Policy. Minimal supervision from the Workshop Foreman.
β€’ Supervise subordinates to achieve sections goals and objectives. Feedback daily to Foreman of every job completed and progress of planned jobs within allocated time frames. Ensure and promote workplace safety in terms of OHASA and J.W. codes of practice.
β€’ Check welding equipment daily and report any defects to Workshop Foreman. Asses excavations, confined spaces before entering, in terms of HT cables, gas lines and other potential hazards and risks .
β€’ Manufacture repair and install specials for regions and other user departments. Execute repairs on water and sewer reticulation in all regions as requested. Manufacture and install which include bur not limited to Y- pieces , T- pieces , collars , spool pieces , manhole covers , step ladders, burst pipe clamps , cover plates , locking devices , panel boards , lighting brackets , sewer baskets , guide rail brackets , pipe fabrication and repairs from 100mm to 1,5 m diameter. Assist contractors on network sites as directed by Foreman.
β€’ Taking over of contractors jobs as directed by Mechanical Manager. Modification on plant and equipment which include but not limited to fuel tanks , body parts , trailer chassis , battery brackets , jockey wheels , water tanks. Rigging and lifting of large and heavy pipes and pipe sections and water reticulation components.
β€’ Repair and install of pipe work on network sites. Inspect and direct excavations in order to execute repairs as needed on sites. Decide and advice on best practices when on site. Carry out standby duties overtime and emergency work as per collective agreement. Respond in shortest possible time frame on call outs, breakdowns on plant, equipment, water and sewer reticulation.
β€’ Assist with pre-planning of materials, resources, plant and equipment provided for scheduled operations in workshops , regions and other user departments. Assist with the effective and productive planning of the section. Tool and toolbox checks to be done monthly.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
β€’ Grade 10 or N1 (NQF 2) + Welder trade test certificate /Appropriate Learnership NQF 4
β€’ 3 years of relevant experience in welding operations focusing mainly on large diameter pipelines. Gas and Arc welding experience is compulsory.
β€’ Basic supervisory experience.
β€’ Valid code 10 Driver’s licence with PrDP
