The Ministry of Labour and Employment sets the minimum wage for skilled welders at ₹17,250 per month in central sphere undertakings as of April 2026. Overtime work beyond 8 hours must be compensated at twice the normal rate. This applies to workers in scheduled employments under the Minimum Wages Act.

Candidates must hold an ITI diploma in welding and have at least 3 years of relevant experience to qualify for welder roles in public sector units as per 2026 guidelines. Age limit is between 18 and 35 years for general category applicants.

Welders in factories are entitled to work no more than 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week according to the Factories Act as updated in 2026. They receive 15 days of earned leave annually after completing 240 days of work in a year.

Employers must contribute 12 percent of the basic salary to the Employees' Provident Fund for welders earning up to ₹15,000 per month as of 2026. Employees also contribute an equal amount which is deducted from their wages.
