MIG Welder

The National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over is £12.50 per hour from 1 April 2026 as set by the UK government. Welders must receive this rate for all hours worked including overtime at 1.5 times the rate. Employers in construction and manufacturing sectors are required to pay this without exception.

Overseas welders require a Skilled Worker visa sponsored by a licensed UK employer with a minimum salary of £38,700 or the going rate for the occupation code 5211. The visa lasts up to 5 years and costs £719 for applications made in 2026. Applicants must also hold a valid Certificate of Sponsorship issued after 6 April 2026.

Welders must hold a Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Welding or equivalent City & Guilds certification plus at least 2 years of documented experience in structural or pipe welding. Employers require proof of BS EN ISO 9606 certification for pressure welding roles. No formal degree is mandatory but apprenticeships completed after 2025 count toward eligibility.

Applicants must submit a CV, welding qualification certificates, proof of right to work such as a passport or share code, and a DBS check certificate dated within the last 12 months. For sponsored roles a valid Certificate of Sponsorship reference is mandatory. Applications without these documents are rejected by 95% of UK employers.
