Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requires foreign plumbers to obtain a work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, with a valid Labour Market Impact Assessment from Service Canada dated no older than 6 months. Applicants must also hold a valid Red Seal endorsement or provincial certificate and apply through the IRCC portal before arrival. Processing takes 8-12 weeks as of 2026.

Employment and Social Development Canada states that plumbers must complete a 4-5 year apprenticeship program with 7200 hours of on-the-job training plus 720 hours of technical training, followed by the Red Seal exam.
