As per the Ministry of Labour, the minimum wage for drivers in Thailand is 372 THB per day as of 1 January 2026 in Bangkok and 350 THB per day in other provinces. Overtime after 8 hours must be paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate. Employers must display the wage rate at the workplace.

Foreign drivers require a work permit under Section 8 of the Alien Working Act as of 2026. The permit costs 3,000 THB for one year and must be applied at the Department of Employment before starting work. A valid non-immigrant visa is mandatory prior to permit issuance.

Drivers must hold a valid Thai driving license category 2 or 3 issued by the Department of Land Transport. At least 2 years of professional driving experience is required for commercial roles with vehicles over 3,500 kg. A medical certificate dated within 6 months is also mandatory.

Applicants must submit a Thai ID card or passport, driving license, house registration, and medical certificate to the employer. For work permits, foreigners need Form WP.2, photos, and a 3,000 THB fee submitted to the Ministry of Labour by 2026 deadlines.
