The Ministry of Labour sets the minimum wage at 450 THB per day for cleaning staff in Bangkok as of 1 January 2026. Overtime after 8 hours must be paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate, equaling 84.38 THB per hour. This rate applies uniformly across all 77 provinces with no lower tier for entry-level roles.

Foreigners require a work permit under Section 9 of the Alien Working Act before starting cleaning jobs, issued by the Department of Employment. The permit costs 3,000 THB for one year and must be applied for within 7 days of visa arrival. Thai employers must sponsor the permit with proof of no qualified Thai applicants available.

No formal education or prior experience is mandated by the Ministry of Labour for cleaning staff positions as of 2026. Applicants need only a Thai ID card or valid passport plus work permit for foreigners. Employers may require basic Thai language skills for safety briefings but cannot impose higher barriers.

Submit a completed application form, national ID or passport copy, house registration, and recent medical certificate from a government hospital to the employer or DOE office. For foreigners, attach the work permit approval letter and visa stamp. Processing takes 15 working days at the Department of Employment.
