Cleaning Specialist

As per the Government of Canada, the federal minimum wage for cleaning staff in federally regulated workplaces is $17.75 per hour effective January 1, 2026. Ontario sets the provincial rate at $17.20 per hour from October 1, 2025, requiring time-and-a-half pay after 44 hours weekly. Employers must pay this rate to all cleaning staff including part-time and contract workers without exception.

As per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, international applicants need a valid work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program with a Labour Market Impact Assessment approved before April 2026. Cleaning staff positions qualify under NOC code 65310 with processing times of 8 weeks for online applications. Permits are issued for up to 2 years and require proof of $15,000 in settlement funds.

As per the Government of Canada, no formal education is mandated for cleaning staff roles but applicants must demonstrate 6 months of paid cleaning experience within the last 2 years. High school completion or equivalent is preferred by 65% of employers in 2026 federal job bank listings. WHMIS certification completed within the prior 12 months is mandatory for chemical handling tasks.

As per the Government of Canada, applicants must submit a SIN card, updated resume, and two government-issued photo IDs when applying via the Job Bank portal by March 2026. A valid police record check dated within 6 months and proof of COVID-19 vaccination status are required for hospital and school cleaning contracts. Applications without these documents are rejected within 5 business days.
