Plumber Technician

Department: Facility Management (Hard Service)

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Project Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role The Plumber Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of water supply and drainage systems, plumbing fixtures, and associated components. The technician must ensure that all plumbing systems function efficiently, comply with local codes, and are maintained in a safe and hygienic condition.

Responsibilities

Installation:
β€’ Install, assemble, and repair piping systems including water, drainage, and vent lines.
β€’ Install plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, faucets, water heaters, pumps, and sanitary ware.
β€’ Read and interpret blueprints, plumbing layouts, and technical drawings to plan pipe routes and installations.

Maintenance and Repair:
β€’ Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on plumbing systems and components.
β€’ Identify and repair leaks, blockages, faulty valves, pipe corrosion, and broken fixtures.
β€’ Replace damaged sections of piping using appropriate methods and tools (soldering, threading, welding, etc.).
β€’ Perform routine checks on water pumps, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and sump systems.
β€’ Monitor water meters, pressure gauges, and flow rates to ensure optimal operation.

Emergency Response:
β€’ Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies such as burst pipes, flooding, or sewer backups.
β€’ Isolate and repair faults quickly to prevent water damage or service disruption.

Compliance and Documentation:
β€’ Ensure all plumbing work adheres to local plumbing codes, building regulations, and safety standards.
β€’ Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and material usage.
β€’ Report defects, material shortages, and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.

Tools and Equipment:
β€’ Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
β€’ Maintain and calibrate plumbing tools and equipment.
β€’ Ensure all materials are used efficiently and stored securely.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Criteria
General HSE Responsibilities:
β€’ Adhere to the company’s HSE policies, procedures, and safety manuals.
β€’ Follow all site-specific safety rules and local legal requirements.
β€’ Participate in HSE training, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
β€’ Report near misses, unsafe acts, and incidents to the HSE officer or line manager.

PPE Compliance:
β€’ Always wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): hard hat, safety shoes, gloves, goggles, and overalls.
β€’ Ensure PPE is maintained in good condition and replaced when needed.

Workplace Safety:
β€’ Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) or Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) before beginning work.
β€’ Use barricades, signage, and safety tape to isolate work areas when required.
β€’ Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when working on pressurized systems.
β€’ Be cautious when working in confined spaces or at height; follow proper entry and fall protection protocols.

Environmental Compliance:
β€’ Prevent contamination of water supply systems by using backflow prevention devices.
β€’ Avoid unnecessary water waste during maintenance and repairs.
β€’ Dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., old pipe insulation, chemicals) safely and according to environmental regulations.

Emergency Preparedness:
β€’ Know the location of shut-off valves, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits.
β€’ Be trained in basic first aid and spill response procedures.
β€’ Participate in fire drills and emergency response exercises.

Qualifications
Education:
β€’ ITI / Diploma in Plumbing Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
β€’ Certification from a recognized plumbing authority (preferred).

Experience:
β€’ Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on plumbing experience in commercial, residential, or industrial settings.

Required Skills
β€’ Strong understanding of plumbing codes and standards.
β€’ Ability to read plumbing schematics and blueprints.
β€’ Proficient in using plumbing tools and diagnostic equipment.
